Day 3 Staying put at little round pond enjoying the day

Day Three
Rain, rain, go away! It rained steadily for most of the day, but we did manage to get a short canoe ride in exploring Little Round Pond. We were surprised no moose were in the pond, maybe they saw our bright orange canoe coming…or heard Dana’s silly song singing (which can sometimes even scare Dana J
During the afternoon showers, we thought we heard voices so Dana went to explore. There were no canoes to be seen. Aha… Dana found a fisherman and his teenage son fishing at the falls. They had walked in from the logging road. About a mile hike in. The man seemed skeptical that we would make it down stream without problems. We asked how the forecast looked for tomorrow. His reply "a little worse than today". He smiled and said, "is there anything you need?" "Nope we’re all set in fact we probably have more than we need as you can see" Dana chuckled.
I forgot to describe our journey around Little Round Pond. We decided to take the canoe into the grassland area around the edge of the pond. Many birds were nesting and were not happy with our exploration. I tried to take a picture, but the camera seemed to focus on the grass, not the baby birds in the grass.

What I believe to be a pitcher plant

In the next grassy area we came across these gorgeous red flowers. They appeared to be a type of orchid, and Dana knew the type of plant a pitcher plant, a carnivorous species with a tunnel like cup at the bottom in which to catch bugs.
On the way back to camp we ran into the merganser family again. The ducklings were curled up on a log at the edge of the pond and momma was on guard duty.
Dana spent quite a bit of time fishing even in the rain. He did manage to catch a few fish (trout) and even one brook trout about 2 ½ lbs. right under the falls. He released all the fish he caught.

We had shake and bake chicken for supper with rice pilaf and played 10 hands of solitaire before settling in for the night.
